The European Energy Gas Metering Network launches a new service platform

To support Europe's energy transition to renewable gas fuels, the European Energy Gas Metrology Network (EMN) of the European Metrology Cooperation (EURAMET) is continuing to provide vital metrology expertise to society and industry。

In mid-September 2022, as part of an ongoing programme to support this transition, EMN launched a free to use service platform to facilitate the promotion and knowledge transfer of metrology services in the energy gas sector。

By launching this easy-to-use platform, EMN hopes to offer customers access to energy gas measurement services available across Europe。The interface promotes measurement and calibration services, including those developed in the previous EURAMET European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP and EMPIR)。These services range from flow and gas composition, to material testing and calorimetry。

The service platform is designed to support all levels of the European and international gas industry, including energy gas producers, gas users and gas distributors who may require measurement services。The platform also seeks to assist testing, inspection and certification laboratories, for example, where inter-laboratory comparisons or metrological traceability demonstrations may be required。

Eu: Nine elements of the US Inflation Reduction Act on subsidies for electric vehicles violate international trade law

According to Yonhap News Agency on November 10, citing CNBC, the European Union believes that at least nine items in the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act on electric vehicle subsidies violate international trade law。According to sources, the finance ministers of the 27 EU countries believe that they need to find ways to deal with the impact of the bill on Europe。

Under the Inflation-Reduction Act, only electric vehicles ultimately assembled in North America are eligible for a tax credit of up to $7,500 per vehicle。In the future, additional conditions such as the use of a certain percentage of battery components and core minerals produced in the United States and other places will not be eligible for electric vehicle subsidies。Korea and the European Union, which have been excluded from the subsidies, have expressed opposition。

The EU says provisions of the Inflation-reduction Act that treat imports from other countries differently from those from the United States and certain countries violate WTO rules。The European Commission's trade commissioner said at a press conference on the 8th that EU countries as Allies of the United States should enjoy the same treatment as Mexico, Canada and other countries。

The president of the European Center for International Political Economy said that the EU would prefer to solve the issue of electric vehicle subsidies through bilateral negotiations rather than through the WTO。

The Eurasian Patent Office began receiving patent applications containing 3D models

As of November 1, 2022, applicants have the opportunity to introduce a three-dimensional (3D) model of the subject matter claimed for protection in their Eurasian patent application documents。This innovation involves inventions and industrial designs。

In September 2022, the 41st meeting of the Administrative Council of the Eurasian Patent Organization unanimously adopted a decision that the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) will begin accepting 3D models as part of Eurasian applications for inventions and industrial designs。

The decision was taken with reference to the experience of the Russian Federal Office for Intellectual Property (Rospatent), which had previously successfully implemented the rule, and Rospatent's readiness to cooperate on the technical activities required for their respective updates to EAPO's internal information systems。

This innovation will greatly simplify the examination process of filed applications, especially those relating to industrial designs, and will optimize the examination process to reveal and demonstrate in greater detail the characteristics of the subject matter covered by the patent application。For enquiries on how to submit 3D model applications and other technical requirements for electronic documents, please call +7 495 411-6161 or email info@eapo.org。

Documentation on the procedure for submitting an application containing a 3D model can be found in the "Documents" section of the EAPO website。The updated version of the Rules for the Implementation of the Eurasian Patent Convention, Part I "Inventions" and Part II "Industrial Designs", and the "Rules and Requirements for the Application of Eurasian Invention Patent Authorization", the "Rules and Requirements for the Application of Eurasian Industrial Design Patent Authorization", has been published。

EAPO Director Goligori.Grigory Ivliev, Director of the Company, commented: "This innovation will greatly optimize the process for applicants to submit Eurasian applications and obtain Eurasian patents。They will have more opportunities to present topics disclosed in the application, and the new rules will streamline the review and decision preparation process for EAPO examiners。In the long run, this will shorten the time it takes for patents to be granted, which means that inventions will reach the market faster。This change is particularly important for industrial designs, the appearance of products, especially considering that the demand for Eurasian industrial designs valid in the territory of the seven EAPO member States has doubled in 1 year。Applicants for Eurasian designs come from all over the world, with applicants from Russia being the most active。”
